Enjoy this show! Charlie is in a great mood and makes jokes and
tells stories like I've never heard him do before. The show reflects his mood as he jams out quite playfully and tries some really different grooves. Charlie Hunter doing a blues riff??!? Check it out.
email me with a setlist if you decipher one.
Charlie's website needs a setlist too.

About As Good As it Gets!
Between the amazing sound quality (it sounds like an official release) and the wonderful playing, this is a phenomenal show! In addition to TJ Kirk, this group is my favorite Charlie Hunter setup. I think Charlie tends to be too laid-back anytime he plays with brass instruments. On the other hand, "duo" can be a bit too bare-bones. This trio of Hunter, Lovejoy & Chopek is perfect. The main emphasis is on Charlie, backed by an amazing wall of rhythm.
I saw this group in San Diego once and I still think that it was perhaps the best live show I've ever seen -out of many hundreds. It's the only time I've ever seen the opening group blow the headlining act out of the water. The headliner was none other than John Scofield, who by the way puts on a good show himself. Beyond that, it was one of the most psychedelic musical performances I ever experienced. My jaw was on the floor for most of the evening. If you're looking for a great place to start (or finish for that matter) with respects to Charlie Hunter, this is it! It's very accessible so download it now!
